Oil changes are a routine operation in the workshop. Often enough, the price for this service is subject to considerable pressure. For this reason it is particularly annoying if damage claims occur after the oil change. KS Tools from Heusenstamm now offer a tool set which ensures a leakproof connection between oil sump and oil drain plug. Since the most frequent cause of leaks at this connection is the combination of aluminium and steel. All too easily, a plug which is overtightened can damage the thread or the seating. „Anyone who has to do an oil change twice, because the customer makes a claim based on oil spots on the garage floor from leaks, has no longer earned any money“, as the KS Tools project management knows. „In many cases, the relevant damage has already been done from previous oil changes. Since an overtightened oil drain plug damages the seating and sometimes also the thread in the oil sump. Use of the tool is extremely simple and only takes a few minutes. A specially-constructed expander pilot expands in the thread of the oil sump and ensures an exact and free from play guidance of the milling cutter. This ensures that the seat is cut at exactly 90° to the drain plug thread. Even a crookedly re-cut thread or newly-cut repair thread in the oil sump is no problem, since the seat is automatically matched to the oil drain plug thread.
With the Oil Drain Plug Seat Cutter Set from KS Tools, the seat is flat again. With this tool, the mechanic can create a tight connection between the oil drain plug and the seat so that no more oil leaks out.
The set solves the most frequent problems with the drain plug seat: first of all a thread which is not cut at exactly 90° to the sealing face when using an oversize tap and secondly damage to the seat caused by over-tightening of the oil drain plug. The mechanic can recut the seat so that it is again completely flat. This means that a perfect connection can once more be established between the oil drain plug and the seat. The sump remains tight.
The result is that customer complaints after oil changes become a thing of the past. The tool allows the seating surface to be exactly aligned and centred.
